Amal (carburettor)

AMAL is a British carburettor trademark. AMAL were the suppliers of carburettors to the British motorcycle industry and their products were present on the products of the largest British motorcycle manufacturers such as BSA and AMC. With the decline of the British motorcycle industry the use of AMAL carburettors declined, but they are still produced as spares for the classic market.

AMAL has 3 carburettor designs, notably "Standard" (Mk1 and Mk2), "Monobloc", and "Concentric".

History

The AMAL company was formed in the late nineteen twenties from Amac, Brown and Barlow and Binks to manufacture carburettors and associated products.

AMAL subsequently became part of the IMI Group in the 1960s. It was sold in 1993 to Grosvenor Works Ltd of North London - a supplier of fuel system components. under Grosvenor some of the most popular obsolete ranges were remanufactured.

In 2003, the business was sold to Burlen Fuel Systems Limited, a company that also produces SU, Solex and Zenith, three other "classic" carburettor ranges.
